Teams with the most March Madness championship wins in the U.S. 1939-2024
As of 2024, the team with the most men's NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship wins was UCLA, with 11 titles. The team to last win a March Madness title was Connecticut, having won both the 2024 and 2023 Championships.

NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball tournament, also known as “March Madness”, is the most important competition for collegiate basketball. In a single-elimination format, 68 college basketball teams fill out the bracket and play for the championship title. There are several rounds of the tournament - the first round, also known as “Round of 64”, the second round or the “Round of 32”, regional semi-finals, called "Sweet Sixteen", the regional finals, commonly known as the "Elite Eight", national Semi-finals, referred to as the "Final Four" and lastly, the championship game. In the last decade, the NCAA March Madness average TV viewership has regularly exceeded 10 million viewers.
Final Four mainstays
With over 20 appearances, the North Carolina Tar Heels have been the team to feature most in the Final Four. From there, the Tar Heels were able to reach and win the final on six occasions, putting them in the top three teams in terms of championship wins. Meanwhile, the Kentucky Wildcats have the second most championships - the most recent of their eight titles came in 2012 and their latest Final Four appearance was in 2015. Even though the Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team has only won two men's NCAA college basketball championships and appeared in a total of eight Final Four rounds, they have played in three of the top 10 highest-rated televised NCAA basketball national championship games. The highest-rated game, however, was the national championship game matchup between the Wolverines' rivals Michigan State Spartans and Indiana State Hoosiers in 1979, with a rating of 24.1.
